Our Class Teacher is Miss Connell and to support our learning we have Miss Edwards, Mrs Freeman and Mrs Vincent who are our wonderful Teaching Assistants.
This year we have 30 children in our EYFS class.
In Reception we follow the statutory framework for the Early Yars Foundation Stage.
There are seven areas of learning and development. All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected. Three areas are particularly important for building a foundation for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, forming relationships and thriving. These are the prime areas: Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
We also support children in four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied. The specific areas are: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and design.
Please have a look at our Curriculum Overviews to see how our learning develops over the school year.
At Thorn Primary School our vision is that all children are taught in a stimulating learning environment with high quality resources. Our reception classroom is organised into separate areas. Each of the areas are carefully planned and resourced in order to provide the children with many different learning opportunities in their play.
Children are taught in small groups for Phonics, Guided Reading, Literacy and Mathematics. Throughout the day children have access to Continous Provision both indoors and outdoors. Children will complete weekly rainbow challenges that link to certain areas of the curriculum to develop their knowledge and understanding.
PE will take place on a Tuesday afternoon with Mrs Carter.
Please make sure your child has their PE Kit in school at all times.
Home Learning books will be sent out on Friday and to be brought back in on Monday.
Home Learning will be a small activity to complete over the weekend related to our theme work, that we will share over the week.
Thank you to all who attended our EYFS reading meeting, it was amazing to see so many of you.
Your support is greatly appreciated to help develop your child's communicationa and language skills.
Below are the slides from the meeting.
If you need extra support with anything, please don't hesistate to ask.
Christmas Craft Afternoon!
Thank you to all our families who joined us for our Christmas Craft afternoon, it was lovely to see you all, we hope you enjoyed it!
This week we have started our theme learning all about London and Kings and Queens.
We have made our own crown for a special banquet on friday, we hope someone in Royalty will visit us!
As part of our Theme Learning, this week we have been learning all about Bonfire Night!
The children have been using lots of different tools and materials to make Fireworks.
We have been busy outdoors, raking and brushing up the leaves that have fallen from the trees. The children have thoroughly enjoyed using Miss Edward's leafblower to sort them into piles before jumping in them and pretending it is raining leaves!
We are moving house!
We came into school this morning and found a SOLD sign in our home corner.
We had to pack up all of the home and move into a new house, the children thoroughly enjoyed being removal workers and packed up all the furniture and have started to set up the new home.
I wonder who is going to move into our indoor home??
Exploring homes
In Literacy we have learnt the rhyme 'The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe.'
We followed a recipe to bake some bread and tried it with some Brother, we made our own Shoe houses and had a go at threading the laces. This morning we explored lots of different homes and went for a walk around the local area to see which different types of houses we could spot. In our groups we have designed a home and can't wait to add different features over the coming days.
Birthday Celebrations
This week we have introduced our Rainbow Challenges to the children.
Children complete 6 challenges over the week during Continous Provision time both indoors and outdoor.
The Children have been busy making different faces and emotions, building lots of different towers and using cutlery to cut up playdough into different sized pieces.
In our topic lessons we have been learning all about celebrating Birthday's and that people celebrate in different ways.
Our 'Class Mascot Ted' turned 5 on Friday, we sang, dance and played games and had some Birthday cake!
