Year 2 is taught by Miss Evans and a collection of wonderful teaching assistants. As your child is now progressing through school, they may be introduced to more challenges, may need to use their independence and become more responsible, however, we will always be here every step of the way to lend a helping hand.
Here is some key information which may be useful about our weekly routines.
Reading Books
Reading books will go home every day and must be brought back into school every day.
We encourage all children to read regularly at home with a grown-up who must sign the home reading record. Little and often is the key!
Book bags will be checked and reading books will be changed weekly. Children will bring home a reading book which matches their reading ability and should be able to read with independence and confidence alongside a free choice book to enjoy with family. It is very important that the children re-read the same book throughout the week to build up their fluency.
Homework
Children will also bring home homework on a Friday and will need to be returned to school by the following Thursday. Homework will practice learning done in class or prepare your child for future learning. It should be something you do together, so you can talk about your child's learning with them.
PE
PE for Year 2 is currently on a Monday and Thursday afternoon. It is expected that a full PE kit is in school every day, in case of timetable changes. Thank you
Outdoor learning day - Wednesday 11th September 2024
On Wednesday 11th September, Year 2 took part in a outdoor learning all about our topic 'The Great Fire of London'. We learnt how walls and houses were made out of mud, sticks and straw and weaved the twigs to represent a wall. The children had great fun getting their hands dirty and participated well with our special visitor and their friends.
We also learnt when and how the Great Fire started and how the fire was able to spread so easily across the capital.
Over the Autumn Term, the children will be learning much more about The Great Fire so keep an eye out for their fantastic work and projects coming soon!
