Hello Year 1 Hope you are all keeping well and staying at home. Well done if you have been doing your learning at home.

I've put some more 2Dos on Purplemash so I'm looking forward to seeing your completed work. Mrs.Kelly

Hello and Welcome to Year 1K

Mrs.Kelly is our class teacher and there are 23 children in our class. We are helped by Mrs.Halshaw, Miss.Lord,

and Mrs.Procter. P.E. is on Wednesday and Thursdays. Homework is given out Fridays to be returned on  Mondays. Home reading books are changed and sent home on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Library books are changed on Tuesdays.

This half term we have been out in the Forest school area developing skills in working as a team and solving puzzles. Here

are some photos of us at work outside

We have also been thinking about art in nature and have used natural materials from the outdoor environment to create clay

   creatures.

In Literacy we have been reading and writing instructions. We made a healthy vegetable salad by chopping, grating and

peeling vegetables and mixing them together. It looked lovely and tasted great. We then wrote a what you need list and

instructions of how to make the salad.

Also as part of our work on instructions we read and wrote instructions of how to make a finger puppet. We then followed our

   instructions to make them.

This half term in computing we have been learning how to program a movable toy.

As part of plants week we went for an autumn walk around the school grounds. We collected lots of autumn objects and

  then made autumn faces.

It has been another busy half term in Year 1. In English we have been reading Supertato books so that we could write our

own Superhero story. We created our own Super vegetables and fruits look at the fantastic results.

We also enjoyed bringing our teddies to school for Children in Need, Christmas Jumper Day, Christmas Concert and Christmas     party.

 Spring term

It has been a great start to the Spring term with our visit to Citheroe Castle. We went into the keep, into the dungeon and

walked along the battlements. We learnt about Mott and Bailey Castles and made them and tried to knock them down

with a catapult. We learnt about different dragons from stories and practiced with swords.

In our design technology lessons we have been learning about moving pictures and vehicles. We made pictures linked to our

theme on castles including sliders and levers.

We looked at vehicles and learnt how axles and wheels worked. We then made Castle Attack Towers.

This half term we have also been out in the Forest school. We have been learning about different clothes for different

weather by making scarecrows and dressing them in appropriate clothing.

In science we have been learning about materials and their properties. We made collage faces using materials with same

  properties.

World Book Day

We really enjoyed World Book Day in year 1. The children looked fantastic in their costumes and we spent the

morning doing activities about Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit, including making Peter Rabbit buns which we
