SEN Information Report and School's Local Offer

All schools are supported to be as inclusive as possible, with the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) being met in a mainstream setting wherever possible.

At Thorn, we strive to create a sense of community and belonging for all our pupils. We have an inclusive ethos with high expectations and appropriate targets, a broad and balanced curriculum for all children and systems for early identification of barriers to learning and participation.

The four broad ‘areas of need’ are defined as:

Communication and Interaction;

Cognition and Learning;

Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties;

Sensory and Physical Needs.

1. How does the school know if children need extra help and what do I do if I think my child has special educational needs?

2. How will the school support my child?

3. How will the curriculum be differentiated to match my child’s needs?

4. How will I know how my child is doing and how will the school help me to support my child’s learning?

5. How does the school know how well my child is doing?

6. How will my child be included in activities outside the classroom, including school trips?

7. How will the school prepare and support my child when joining the school or transferring to another school?

8. What support will there be for my child’s overall well being?

9. How accessible is Thorn Primary School?

10. What training have the staff supporting children with SEND had or are currently having?

11. What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the school?

12. Who can I contact for further information?

13. Who should I contact if I am considering whether my child should join the school?

The Local Offer sets out at the ‘local authority level’ what the Local Authority expects to be available in every school.

The above website also contains links to many other agencies which provide support to children with SEND and their families.

The Lancashire Local Offer FaceBook page has lots of information and support for parents including information on support groups and activities for children with SEND and their families in the local area:
